![]() ![]() The album is an absolute gem and such an important part of the rock history. Osbourne stated: "What the fuck does a bloke dressed as a pig with a sword in his hand got to do with being paranoid, I don't know, but they decided to change the album title without changing the artwork." In Retrospect. There was a lot of confusion in the band, when the label changed the title but didn't change the cover which was a guy with a sword dressed up as a pig. The record's name was originally meant to be War Pigs, but the label changed the title to Paranoid, because the name War Pigs might be offensive to supporters of the Vietnam War, and because the song Paranoid was more successful than any other on the album. As said before, the songs were writen when the band was jamming at the studio and even on the actual stage at shows. The riffs on the album were mostly writen by Iommi, the lyrics were writen mostly by Geezer, Ozzy worked on the melody of the son and Ward laid down the rhytmn section of the songs. Mixed with the writing of the lyrics the song usually took only about two hours to write. The band had little new material, so most of the riffs were improvised by guitarst Tony Iommi. ![]() Both Bill Ward (drummer) and Geezer Butler (bassist) stated that they wrote the song as fast as possible. The band took an interesting approach at writing the album. The band recorded the album with producer Rodger Brain in late June 1970 in Regent Sound and Island Studios in London. The first record from Sabbath was initially badly received by critics, but later saw a big rise in popularity, which helped the band write and record their second album in only 7 months since the release of the debut album. The albums includes such classic hits as Iron Man, Paranoid, Electric Funeral and is often considered to be one of the most influental albums in the heavy metal genre. The record was released in 1970 and one of the two only albums from Sabbath, that saw the top of the UK Albums Chart (other being 13). This time on In Retrospect we are taking a look at the second studio effort by the English rock band Black Sabbath. ![]()
